About Our Organisation:
Youth Off The Streets is a not-for-profit youth services organisation that supports 12–24-year-olds experiencing or at risk of homelessness and complex disadvantage.
We walk alongside each young person as we seek to understand their needs and goals, and we offer the safety, support and education that helps them to realise their potential.
Our Cultural Support team works with all areas of YOTS to ensure the rights and needs of staff, young people and communities from diverse cultural backgrounds are reflected in all of our services and programs.
The Role:
The Culturally Responsive Practice (CRP) Lead plays a pivotal role within our organisation, with a primary focus on researching, designing, and implementing a CRP framework. The CRP Lead will work to create and embed a highly applicable CRP framework that integrates an organisation-wide training program that supports its implementation. This role will liaise, communicate, and coordinate with relevant staff as well as internal and external stakeholders, to ensure the framework is successfully embedded throughout the organisation. The framework will equip our staff with the capacity, tools and knowledge that enable YOTS to pride itself on offering consistently relevant CRP services that effectively and meaningfully engage with youth and families from diverse backgrounds. Simultaneously, the framework and training program will ensure YOTS becomes renowned as a highly inclusive CRP workplace. The primary goal is to elevate YOTS to become a significantly respected, lead organisation in CRP.
Key Responsibilities:
Framework Development (40%):
- Conduct extensive research, select and/or to design a Culturally Responsive Practice framework aligned with the organisation's values and mission.
- Collaborate with internal leaders and teams to ensure the framework's relevance and effectiveness.
- Implement the framework, providing guidance to internal staff on its adoption.
Training Program Creation (30%):
- Develop culturally responsive training programs tailored for internal staff, including case workers, educators, and support teams.
- Work closely with subject matter experts to create comprehensive and engaging training materials.
- Facilitate interactive training sessions to equip internal staff with the skills and knowledge required for cultural responsiveness in their interactions with youth.
Liaison and Implementation (20%):
- Collaborate with managers and team leads to ensure the successful integration of culturally responsive practices within the organisation.
- Provide guidance, mentoring, and support to internal staff, assisting them in addressing cultural responsiveness challenges and creating an inclusive environment.
External Engagement (10%):
- Establish and maintain relationships with external partners, community organisations, and stakeholders interested in our culturally responsive framework and training programs.
- Deliver cultural responsiveness training to external clients, including schools, community groups, and organizations. Adapt training content to meet the specific needs of these groups.
Skills and Abilities:
- Cultural association with one or more of the local communities.
- Knowledge and understanding of culture, customs and beliefs of various communities.
- An understanding of the impact of Social Emotional Well Being and mental health issues on individuals within the community and as a whole.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication and computer literacy skills.
- Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of culturally relevant frameworks that inform organisation policy and underpins cultural practice and supports outcomes for culturally diverse young people
- Extensive knowledge and experience working within non-government or community based organisations
- Demonstrated experience working with multiple business units
- Sound understanding of good project management principles
- Ability to interpret contract requirements and relevant regulatory legislation
Requirements:
Qualification & Experience
- Minimum of Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; added bonus for a Master's degree
- Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing culturally responsive training programs.
- In-depth understanding of cultural responsiveness, diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and best practices.
- Exceptional communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences effectively.
- Proven ability to collaborate seamlessly with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Culturally competent and sensitive.
- Proficient research skills related to cultural responsiveness.
