The K-2 Strategy Branch in the Early Childhood Division is looking for someone who is motivated to support the management of a suite of programs to deliver sustainable improvements for children as they transition across the early years and into school.
About Us
The Early Childhood Division of the Department of Education leads the development and implementation of policy, funding and regulatory frameworks to ensure all children from birth to 8 years are engaged in high-quality programs and services that support learning and development, and successful transitions.
Key state-provided programs and activities overseen by the Kindergarten to Year 2 (K-2) Strategy Branch include: State Delivered Kindergarten, eKindy, and building professional expertise in the early years, including teaching, learning and transitions.
Your Role
The Principal Program Officer role in the K-2 Strategy Branch presents an opportunity to make a positive impact and build organisational capability to improve outcomes for Queensland children and families.
You will lead with influence to implement a range of activities contributing to the state-wide approach to quality teaching and learning in Kindergarten to Year 2 (K-2).
As Principal Program Officer, your role will include the following responsibilities:
- lead strategic design, planning and execution of K-2 curriculum, teaching and learning projects, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and objectives
- design, develop and deliver a suite of research-informed resources to build the capability and confidence of leaders, teaching teams and children, and support the enactment of high-quality teaching, leading and learning in school-based kindergartens in consultation with a range of stakeholders
- synthesise and translate current early years research, strategy and guiding frameworks into practice, including inclusive and culturally responsive resources that promote high-quality pedagogies and continuous improvement
- support K-2 curriculum, teaching and learning team initiatives, through collaborative design, quality assurance, research reviews, resource development, consultation and implementation
- coordinate and maintain departmental production procedures including copyright, procurement, contract management, communications, briefing notes and other correspondence

About You
As the Principal Program Officer in the K-2 Strategy Branch, you will have:
- a passion for equitable, inclusive and culturally responsive early years education;
- an in-depth understanding of the complexities of kindergarten environments and program delivery modes across Queensland, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities;
- a working knowledge of adult learning principles for professional development;
- exceptional writing, design and communication skills;
- experience in contributing to an inclusive work environment, and collaborative team culture.
